Located in the Village to the north of Hakuba, and very difficult to pronounce, Tsugaike Kogen has become more and more popular over the last few years. It is a 4 syllable word pronounced Tsu-ga-i-ke, with the “i” pronounced the same as the letter “e”. For those not wanting to learn it, just call it “TK”.
Tsugaike Kogen is he 2nd largest resort in Hakuba Valley, having wide open beginner runs at the bottoms, intermediate runs midway up, and then advanced skiing at the top.
There are a number of tree runs, but you need to register and get an arm band before being allowed access. It is also one of the most popular gateways into the back country. Taking a local guide is highly recommended, and full back country kit is an absolute must.
The “Eve” gondola is one of the longest in Japan, and will get you quickly to the top of the resort. There is also a rope-way that opens in spring, expanding the terrain higher.
Night skiing is also available but is mostly limited to those with their own vehicles,a s there is no public transport apart from taxis.
