Hakuba Valley is located high in the Japanese Northern Alps, about 260km north-west of Tokyo by road.

There are many different ways to get here, with train, bus and car being the main forms of transportation. However if coming from Fukuoka or Sapporo, there are daily flights to nearby Shinshu Matsumoto Airport.

Hakuba is a year round travel destination. For people coming to Ski / Snowboard, then January to March are the safest months for snow coverage.

Summer is also very pleasant in Hakuba so July to September are also excellent months to visit.

Hakuba is quite a large area, and while many come for the mountains, much of the village area is quite flat. In the summer months, bicycle is a great way to explore the Hakuba Valley, and bringing a pair of running shoes is also good idea to really take in the various natural attractions Hakuba has to offer.

In winter where most people want to get to the slopes ASAP, then using the shuttle bus system is generally the best option. And for those with experience driving in the snow, getting a rental car can give you a lot more freedom.
